REALLY?! (dripping with sarcasm) :laugh3:

I seem to read that every time I hear someone needing a new rear DS, and it's what I've been planning on for my rig if I ever get an SYE. I just have to remember that the front shafts from XJ's were different lengths depending on if the XJ was stick or auto....

engine matters two - by the way...

the Auto trans with the 4.0L and the 231 is the shorter
where the AX-15 with the 4.0L is longer

not sure about the 4cyl, but i do know that it makes a difference...

Thanks for the reminder Ranger, hopefully I can remember it when the time comes to find one....

got the front in the back right now... works great but the edges of that spicer part are razor sharp. No reason why but my hands were so cut after swapping out the u joints and puttin that baby on the flange. Damn spicer.

How much is that spicer part? I would think that doing a real sye and then just using the front shaft would be better and about the same price as using the hack n tap and that spicer part.

i like the weld in the middle of it...

LOL...that UCA looks like some parts I've seen at my local Tractor Supply store! I've heard of guys running 3-pt hitch and quick hitch arms before...but I wouldn't do it. The ends wear out too easily and were never designed to be used in an automotive type setting. Not safely anyways.

According to the thread, he picked up the adapter for $60 locally. You can buy it online for $60.51: http://www.rockforddriveline.com/Shopping/R2-21-1229.asp

Ok, so:

Plus

Is a better way to go than:

http://www.central4wd.com/store/itemdetail.asp?ID=8261
(which allows you to bolt one of those shafts directly on)

???

Meh...I still like the way I did with the AA kit and front shaft. Less to worry about, IMHO. Just not fond of cutting my own shaft, then drilling it, then not having it hardened afterward.

for a lot of folks I think it comes down to cost... I mean, otherwise why else would you run an old front driveshaft in the rear instead of buying a new HD driveshaft? If you've got a '96+ XJ, the RE hack-n-tap is like $88, plus $60'ish for the DS adapter, plus whatever you end up paying for a front DS (which in the case of the guy that started the thread was $0). If you're on a tight budget, or are just a cheap bastid, those numbers look a lot better than $230+ for an SYE, plus another $250-$300 for a DS.
