U bolt thread excess

I had like some 5/16" thick ubolt plates which i am replacing with 1/2" bumpstop plates.

I have a problem. before i had 1/2" of extra thread, now i have about 1/4" excess. is this a safe amount? the extra long nuts are fully engaged.

Having the u-bolt extend from the end of the nut doesn't do anything for strength, so you are fine.

...plus if you leave them too long, they are a bigger pita to get off once they rust.

Yep...you're safe....especially since you have the longer nuts on and the thread is still exposed.

pics will be up soon. im using JKs plates and rubber hockey pucks mounted on the plates, so they are adjustable 1" at a time


i have seen cases before where the nut was near the end of the bolt it would start to deform and slip off. these wher in high stress situations though
