1987 Xj with 4liter 2.5. Is this motor T.B.I , FI, or Carb.

Your post is confusing. It is either a 4.0L or a 2.5L. All the 4.0L engines are MPI. The early (84,85) 2.5L's were carb, the 86 and I believe the 87 were TBI and then they went to MPI in later years. The easy way to tell is just to look and see if there is a fuel rail running parallel to the valve cover and 4 injectors sticking into the intake right at the head.

Assuming what you have is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, it's throttle body injection. The 2.5L was TBI from 1986 thru 1990, and went to MPI in 1991.
