Dana 30 question

I have a 4.0 non ho 1990 XJ
and a ford 8.8 rear
the easy thing to do is pull the D30 out of a 4cyl xj that way gearing is the same as the 8.8 (4.10)
Can I use a D30 out of a 4cyl 1986 XJ, will it bolt right up?

the uni-hubs and brakes are different on the 89 and prior D30s. You can swap the knuckles over to the other housing though. Are both axles disco/non-disco?

Also, don't just assume that the 4 banger axle will always be the 4:10 ratio, be sure to at least check the tag - you never know what's been done to those rigs that end up in the bone yards. Someone might have swapped out the axle with one of a different ratio just to get it to the yard....ask me how I know.... :laugh3:

And if the 2.5 had a auto behind it, it will normally have a 3.55 axle in it.
