Add an oil slinger?

I am regearing and the stock pinion (3.55) didn't have an oil slinger at the pinoin head. My ? is, should I add one to my 4.10 gear pinion being it is a smaller gear? I am just thinking the larger 3.55 gear was doing a good job at picking oil but the smaller gear has me questioning.....what is the norm to do?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that slingers throw oil off -- they don't pick oil up. I don't see how a slinger is going to help pinion oiling.
