What other year engines will fit a 91 XJ?

Hi,

I need to replace the engine in my 91 XJ. It is a Briarwood with 4.0L HO Auto.

I want to do this as cheap as possible, so I'm looking at getting a used engine.

What engines will be a direct fit? Any 4.0L 91-95?

Wish I could help you... I USED to think I new something about automobiles but since I bought my 90 XJ I'm as lost as you.

Yes, you can even use later engines with a little modification.

Any 4.0L short block will fit. Since you want to do this as cheaply as possible, I assume you're looking to just drop in the complete long block, with head, manifolds and injection rail intact. In that case, 91 through 95 are the direct fits. 90 and older are Renix, and 96 and newer are the new OBD-II computer.

Don't forget you can also use the engine from a 91 thru 95 Wrangler, or a 93 thru 95 ZJ.
