I recently built a snorkel for my 2000 sport. Besides running the breather tubes from the transfer case and transmission to the snorkel, is there any other modifications that I should make before fording it into some deep stuff?

sealed your distributor yet? dont forget about your axles vent tubes either.

you dont have to run them to the snorkel, just make sure there nice and high

404 Distributor. Run the breathers to the cowl and you should be dandy.

Doesn't the alternator require some kind of waterproofing?

Water won't hurt the alt unless it is submerged for a rediculous amount of time, it the mud and debree that can get stuck in the brushes during water crossings that cause failure.

the 2000 XJ was the first year that coil pack was used; they quit using the distibutor.
Last year on a trip I went into some 3' deep water and the alt went out immediatly after I came out of the creek. I had to fix it on the trail 100 miles away from the nearest auto part store. It sucked....I ruined the whole trip for 3 other people. So in reply to waterproofing the alt...If I were you I would atleast spray some WD-40 all over and around the electrical output of it. I sprayed a coumpound called WIRE DRY over all of my electric points that are seen from the bottom of the Jeep. Wire Dry is designed for to reject water on electrical systems within boats (even works with salt water). Im not a member so I cant post pics, but if anyone want to see how I built my snorkel, just reply with your e-mail address. The snorkel looks as good, if not better than ARB's snorkel. It is made out of PVC pipe. Minimal welding required for mounting bracket. It costed all of 20$ to build.

Tell ya what...I'll build a site tonight when I have some time with detailed pics of all the mods that i've made and post a link on this thread. I'll also put detailed instructions on how to do, and what to use.

Click these links to veiw exactly how i built my snorkel....
I welded the bracket directly onto my Jeep.
I used a sealing adhesive to seal the PVC to the air box.
the PVC goes into the air box about an inch.
I used a 2 1/4" hole saw to drill the hole in the fender and airbox.
U might want to use a 2 3/8" hole saw because the 2 1/4" was a bit to small.
I used standard PVC cement to seal the PVC together.
I painted it gloss black and added my decal.

What'd you use to seal off the intake?
When Im preparing to go off road, I just cover the large recatangular hole with duct tape( Inside airbox, and outside airbox). The small holes at the bottom of the airbox I use silicone glue and duct tape. I make sure all the holes are completely sealed (this is a must).
