OEM Cross bar question

I've got a 96 XJ and buttons that allow the crossbars to move are broken. I was wondering if latemodel (2000, the "D" shaped ones) would fit?

I assume you are talking about the roof rack? The roof rails are identical, so I imagine the cross bars would interchange. But if you are going through the trouble, you might as well get stronger aftermarket parts or the Mopar sport-utility bars. (They changed in '99, BTW, to the shorter rails and D_shaped crossbars from the ZJ.)
