NP242 Tranfer Case Problems

I have a 89 Cherokee 4.0l with NP242 case. When I put it in 4HI when I'm in drive it grinds when I hit the gas. So I put the trans in netrual and back in drive and it usually goes into 4HI. Same thing when I take it out of 4wd it grinds untill I put it in netrual and back into drive. Other then that it works ok. Is there a rebuild kit I could get or do you guys know whats wrong with it?

Sounds like the syncros are going, could need a rebuild, but if it isn't something that is pressing save some bucks and wait. I belive that Rigid Steel has chains and rebuild kits for a good price as does most of the major R&P places. Worth checking it out.
