Hi, I have a 89 XJ w/4.0L Tilt steering and no cruise control.

Problem: No key required to start my Jeep !!!!!

:(

After owning it for almost a month.. I didnt realize this. Anyone can jump in my jeep and go about starting it up.

Cure ?

Anyone had this problem ? fixed it ? Any ideas for me ?

I dont want to replace the column...

Thanks for any help,
Dan

I haven't had that problem, but had a 88 S-10 that something happened and I could no longer even turn the key to start it. I called out an automotive locksmith. He changed the cylinder with a used unit and key.

Yup, I'd recommend a new cylinder too. That's what my 89 did...

Well.. I figured it out today.. I bought a new lock cylinder from autozone for only $12.99 and changed the old one out.

It wasnt very hard to change it either.. The lock came with instructions.. If anyone wants to see a scan of it let me know.
