will 33x12.50 tires mount to 15x8 wheels without problem?

Yeah they will fit. The wide tire and narrower rim will help keep the bead on if you air down. I am running that same set up now.

8.5" would be factory a specification for that tire size (a Hummer H2's 34"/ 12.50" tire is mounted on a 17"/8.5" rim), but there should be no problem. I run a 35"/12.50" on a 15" by 8" rim and feel pretty safe airing down to 10 psi.

Thats the setup I am using. 15x8rim / 33x12.5 tires and 4'' backspacing.
Air down all the time to 10lbs no problems. Very common setup
