I'm interested in installing Bushwacker Pocket Flares on my 2001 XJ. Bushwacker only makes them up to '96 due to the body moldings and bumper wrap-around corners. But other than that, they should fit (according to Bushwacker). Has anyone done this? How did you make it work? Any photos?

Thanks!

Yea ive done it to my 2000 XJ which should be the same as the 01.. You just need to cut more on the newer models. Its still fairly easy to install. Here are some pics - http://community.webshots.com/album/244655796HdqeyR

Make sure to read up on how people installed them before you do your install you will learn some things such as where the windshield washer fluid is (driver side front fender) so you dont cut or drill into it. Also When trimming the rear you have to make releif cuts and bend the metal so you dont cut of the rivits and seperate the body from the wheel well. GL with you install.

You can go here to read up about the install - http://jeepin.com/features/bushwacker/index.asp

And this is where u can get them for a great price - http://www.rocky-road.com/xjflare.html

Here is my 99 (XJ) and my 2000 (daughter)

Indeed.

Alaksaflyr -- that's a 99? It's cut? Or the flares make it look cut?

What size tires?

Just curious. Also have an 01 (just got it, cherry) and hate the factory flares.

But yeah, those things look best with bigger tires since they open things up so well.

Yeah, it's a 99. Fenders were cut (alot easier than I thought it would be) and I'm running 35's.

That looks awesome. How much lift are you running?

Thanks!

It's the RE 5.5 Extreme duty. I ended up with almost 7 inches of lift in the rear so I used a .75 coil spacer up front to try and make it sit a little more level, it's still nose down just a little.

If you trim the plastic door molding and the rear bumper end caps, the BW flares will line right up perfectly.

Here's my old setup with stock rear bumper:

On my current setup with an aftermarket rear bumper, I've added trimmed down front door moldings behind the rear flare to cover up the holes left by the end cap mounting tabs:
