Hey folks. Ive noticed that my speedometer doesnt work sometimes when the temp. drops below zero. Has anybody else had this problem? Time for a new VSS?

What year XJ? Early ones had mechanical speedos, later were electronic.

Yea, sorry. Shes a 92 4.0l Auto with 242 x-fer case.
I've been arguing with my speedo since I bought the beast back in December. It still freaks out till it warms up and I'm running outta parts to replace on it.
Its an 89 with np242 and cruise. So far I've pulled the head unit and lubed everything there. Lubed the short speedo cable. Took apart and lubed the cruise sensor thing. Replaced the long speedo cable, and finally I popped the gear outta the xfercase and made sure that was right.
Sometime this week I'm gonna pull the whole cable out and reroute it and see if that fixes my problem.

Mine's been doing that for a while, started off reading slow, then bouncing like a tach on a 2 stroke then it quit. First place I'm going is a VSS. BTW AZ on line has about the cheapest price I've seen.
