installing higher wattage bulbs, thicker wiring harness?

if i will be installing any better bulbs in my ligths, non sealed, do i need a new wiring harness for the wattage? im talking about silvanias etc... nothing above 60 watt rating... would that improve?

You don't NEED a new harness, but you definately should get one. Even for stock lights this is a big improvement. Most XJs with the original wiring are lucky to get 11.5v at the lights - if you can get the full 13.5-14.5v from the alternator to your headlights, they will be about 50% brighter.

It's always nice to do things all at once. If your going to non sealed beams, just the regular halegon bulbs (like H4s), you need to change the connecters, as the ones for sealed beams wont work with regular halegons(I believe), so you may as well do it all at once, the connectors to the wires. You may after a while want to change to higher wattage bulbs, and in that case you'll be happy you upgraded.
Heres a page you could use from go jeep. Might save you some money, instead of buiying a whole setup from a company.

Here another page from 4x4 wire, complete with pictures.

H4s and sealed beams use the same connector.
