Armor mounting Question

I've got a factory transfer skid and a factory gas tank skid to install. I don't have the nutstrips to install into the framerail for the gas tank skid. So, i'm going to use nutserts to install the transfer case skid and the gas tank skid. Does anyone know what size nutsert i need for the T/C skid and the gas tank skid? I think the holes are bigger in the framerail for the gas tank skid.

Also, i have a set of Oympic rock sliders to install. I know the instructions say to just drill the holes in the framerail to install. Being that the metal is thin, wouldn't it be better to use nutserts there also? Thanks, DC

I am not totally sure but I think the Tcase skid nut (1) is already in the frame and is possibly metric. The gas tank nutserts are the same for the class III tow hitch and are at the dealer or one of the online Jeep parts places. I sn't the pass side one already there?. (My xj came with skids)

Rocker skid - Some people use self threading screws others make a backing plate or a sleave to bolt thru the "frame" . Check out RockRatz or the hardware store for threaded inserts that work like pop-rivets

My '92 XJ don't have any of the nutserts to mount either the TC skid or gas tank skid (either side). My Drawtite hitch is held on by carriage bolts. I guess a dealer must have installed them.

We have a Fastenal store in town, i think i'll pay them a visit.

I don't think the jack nut would be strong enough to hold the skids. I could be wrong.

Here is the place to buy the nutserts you need for your transfer case OEM skid http://www.nutty.com/threatsert.html $20.05 total price including S/H, a little pricey for 10 of those, but better than tapping into the framerail without a nut. Going to try to use them for my gas tank skid also. Don't know if they will work. The holes in the framerail for the gas tank skid are a little larger than a 9/16 hole. May have to get the factory nutstrips. I'll make another post when i get finished with the project for future reference in the search section.

Thanks Tim_MN for the info.
