Mig vs Stick for front D44 buildup

So did anyone use a mig for welding the the brackets on their front D44? I always figured a stick would be needed for this but recently saw a website where thet used a mig.

I have a Miller 175 that I would like to use as I don't currently have a stick welder. I think it would do the job but would like some opinions from those who have done it.

the right MIG in the right hands will have NO problem doing D44 brackets. I have no experience with the Miller 175 (just the 250x).

If you do attempt this, just ensure that you concentrate the heat proportionally on the axle which will disipate heat much faster than bracketry.

the miller175 will be fine.

Don't worry about "heat concentration"...I don't even know what thats about but it just isn't a concern. whole lotta internet phooey.

I used a stick 'cause that's what I had! :laugh3:
There WERE a few spots I welded where it may have been tough to get a MIG gun in there, but I'm sure it could be done. I'm personally more comfortable with a stick, as I seem to be able to see the puddle better. But that's probably due to having more practice with it.

Thanx, that's good to hear. There maybe a few places I will use a stick but for most fabricating I find a MIG much easier. Thanx again.

I use a Miller 185 machine and have no doubts that you will have no problems especially if you have the skills to stickweld. It will be no worries.
