Zerk fitting on Tranny Bellhousing

Okay, My brother has a 88' MJ w/4 banger (2.5L) and 4 speed manual (AX-4). I'm 99% sure the slave cylinder seals are blown. This weekend we dropped the tranny and there is a Zerk fitting on the outside of tranny with a tube running to the side of the slave cylinder inside the Bellhousing. Is the Zerk fitting for greasing the slave cylinder or for bleeding the clutch only? .:Baffled:.
