i need to change the u joint on my front shaft but i dont know what size socket to buy to remove the rotor nut is it 1 3/8 or 1 1/2 or even metric ?

You talking about the nut that holds the stub shaft to the wheel bearing? If you are it's 36mm.

F that! There are three bolts on the back of the wheel that, when disconnected, allows the inner/outer axle to simply slide out together. Before you do this, you must remove the caliper and rotor. This is so much easier than tryin to remove that damned hub. Then, you can use a grinder w/ a cutting wheel to get the u-joint out. Those three bolts are a 12 point but I don't remember what size. Hope this helps.

Why would you do that to get a u-joint out?
im a much bigger fan of removing the snaprings/caps... less need for new axle shafts at that point...
