Where to get motor work done in San Francisco Bay Area?

Flatty

NAXJA Forum User
I have a Cherokee with the 4.0 litre and has over 200,000 miles. I just sold my Dodge CTD, and am gonna start driving this Cherokee every day. Who here has an idea of a palce I can take this Jeep in to get some motor work done. Primarily it has a cracked exhaust manifold, the motor needs a diagnostic check, and everything needs to be repaired. I do not have more than a week for a shop to do this work. Who has a recommendation for a descent shop within 100 miles of San Francisco?

Thanks
Dima

Where is Jes, and how do I get a hold of him? Does he have a shop?

5-90 Do you have a shop? If so, where is it?

Dima,

look up Jes under Users list posted at the top of the page. Send him a PM (private message) He's seems like a pretty cool guy. I'm sure he'd be willing to point you in the right direction.

I'm in San Jose. I don't have an official shop, but I plan on opening one after I finish school (finally!) and get out of CA.

I do, however, have 3 XJ's, and I know what colour the RENIX wires are. I've been swinging wrenches pretty much all my life, and as I've told my boys, "I've been doing it long enough to decide to specialise now."

Most of the work you mention sounds like a couple days' worth of stuff I've already done and have the tools for, so I could turn it around relatively quickly. I don't have any jobs in front of you, so you wouldn't have to wait more than the time I have to spend working (and the day I have to allow for the manifold to get STONE BLOODY COLD - warpage sucks!)

Send me a full list of work and I can give you an idea on time.

Got any good word? My rates are reasonable, and I can keep you from waiting too long... The longest part looks like the manifold, like I said, it will need a full day to cool (at least a solid overnight) before I can pull it so the exhaust and intake flanges won't warp.

Most of the rest of the diagnostics can be done with a meter and about an hour - is there anything specific you'd like checked out? The nice thing about RENIX is that it is easier to work with than OBD (IMHO.)

Let me know what you're thinking.

Oh - if you want to know where I live more specifically, look up your distance to CA-85 and Camden Expressway, I'm about a half mile from there.
