87 and 96 shocks and D30

do the 87 and 96 xj have the same R&P and carrier as the 96?? Also do they use the same rear shocks??

Yes on the shocks and it should be a yes on the carrier if they are both high pinion axles.

What axle? You may have a Chrysler 8.25" in the 96, and there's even a slim chance you'll have a Dana44 in the 87; otherwise in each case you'll have a D35. IF both are D35s I believe they will use the same carrier but that should be verified as well since one of them has c-clips and the other doesn't.

The front axle in each case will be a high-pinion D30, but the newer one won't have the vacuum disconnect. I don't believe that makes any difference on the r+p or carrier however.

Rear shocks? Same.
