My rear storage box project

this is what I accomplished today in my storage box project. You have to picture either a carpet covered sheet of plywood or a sheet aluminum covered MDF top covering the whole frame except over the large red box by the spare. Also, imagine an 8" sub next to the 6x8 in the passenger side speaker box.

now I need to decide whether to make one large top over it all, or two tops, one over the speakers area, one over the tooling area on a hinge... I also need to decide whether to mount the speakers TO the lid or down in the box and perforate the lid to let the sound out....

...comments? suggestions?

DO NOT MOUNT THE SPEAKERS IN THE BOX! Mount them on top of the box. If you put them in the box and perforate the lid, you will have a very hollow, midrange heavy sound. It will not be good. The sub doesn't really matter much, but the 6x9's or 6x8's or whatever they are need to be on top.

yeah..... I'm leaning towards a 2-piece lid...one just for the speakers with the 6x8's mounted like a standard speaker box and the sub mounted low underneith of the lid....I just need to find some grills now to protect teh speakers....

Two-piece lid, just so you retain access while the seat is locked back. Watch that you don't assume the spare tire is vertical, either...don't ask how I realized that one ;)

It's out of date, but http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/storage.html covers my storage box. I've since added a second box on the left in place of the spare tire, and need to complete that construct and writeup soon.

Edited to add:
I forgot to mention the speakers - mine are in the overhead soundbar. There's less distortion and no sound problems when you pack the storage area full of junk.

yeah..1 bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor....bedroom was out of the question and can't get an extension cord outside well anymore since I moved....that large wooden chest works well too as a table. I give myself the most props for getting alright long straight cuts out of my jigsaw and still having pretty square corners.......
