Loose Steering column

Well, I"ve searched and came up with a dead link about this.

This is my 2nd column that is loosed up and down where it tilts.

Is there anyway to rebuild this, or just try and find another column?

There are 4 bolts that hold the column at the pivot point, I tore mine apart last night and tightened them and it works like new now. There are several parts that come out so you must pay close attention so you can put them back. I ended up tearing mine apart about 3 times before I got them all correct.

There's a nylon washer-like piece that wears out on the older column, and you will end up with 4-direction wobble. I used to have a part number around for the replacement part number but apparently have disposed of that. A good parts guy in the dealership can probably find it again with no problem. My X had it replaced while I was in the field one time and I think the total ran about $200. $10 or less for the part, and the rest was labor to replace it...

Wish I'd have had this article when I fixed my 89 GM style column a few years back, not hard, just takes a little time.
