Rear Drive Shaft?

How do one get this to come off the slip yoke, just cut the clamp on the rubber boot and slide the shaft out? I have heard that the '96+ XJ could be driven without the drive shaft with no loss of oil. Is this true? Thanks all.

Yes, pretty much as you described.....Cut the band at the tailshaft, then you can yank the driveshaft off. You can use a small zip tie to secure the boot back on once you reinstall the driveshaft...

And yes, the oil won't leak out of the tcase on '96 and newer XJ's, when you pull the driveshaft. You're just taking the slip yoke off the output shaft. The output shaft is what keeps a seal on the tailcone.

Thanks Ivan. I am trying to nail down the source of some vibes since the lift. It usally happens between say 30 and 45 MPH.
