Too hot - Head warped?

I've been reading a lot of these forums lately as I am the newest to the overheating Jeep club. Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences - I've learned enough now to start tackling this problem.

But now I'm going to ask one question I've been afraid of asking:
with all these overheating problems, how common is it to warp the head or blow the head gasket?

I can only recall one fellow having a warped head. I believe it is a cast iron head and hence deals with the heat better.

I've seen two or three...including mine... head gaskets blown and causing the overheating and the head was slightly warped.

In any case, I always have the cyl head machined on any engine that I have apart... just not worth it to take the chance of not doing it.
