Splines For The T/c?

Picking up an xj on Saturday and need to know something about torque converters. Do all the automatics behind 4.0's have the same splines??? It's an 88 Limited if that helps.

21 slpine 87 to 91

23 spline 92+

Thanks, and I did mean transfer case, but I think you figured that out. So a standard transfer case is the same for those years as well or just the automatics?

The transfer case itself will have the 21 or 23-spline input for the years listed above regardless of the transmission.
