So, there was a discussion on socalxj about a LCIR run Labor Day Weekend before they close for four-wheeling.

The Poll says 13 votes for dropping everything and doing some runs over Labor Day weekend (Sept 3rd-5th). Are we still on? Who can go? Who's leading? What time is lineup? Anyone Camping? details, details

And just a thought, is that a good weekend to show our support? It's
probobly going to be a busy weekend right? I noticed some of you guys are running it THIS weekend. Sorry I can't join, I'm moving!

Thought I would bring it up, since I hadn't heard anything about the
proposed run since the post was made about them closing down for
wheeling traffic. For the billionth time no less, it's like they're
crying wolf everytime, but this time sounds serious! (Of course
that's what I thought last time) Did anyone write letters?

FWD From Roger Mullins of JustRuns....

Los Coyotes has been on the verge of closing to off-roading for
several years now.

There is a faction of the Tribe that does not want to keep it open.
At one time the revenue from 4 wheeling was an important contribution
to the revenue of the Band but now that they get a share of casino
money it is a very minor portion of their income.

If one consideres the minor net income compared to the very real risk
of fire that exists I would not blame them for closing to outsiders.

There have been two major fires in the past couple of years that
approached the reservation and actually burned the margins. With the
continuing dryness and fire danger I would not be surprised if the
faction that wants the reservation closed finally wins the argument.

It might help to write letters to the Tribal Council asking them to
keep the reservation open. If you do write such a letter, be sure to
posture it as a REQUEST and not a demand that they keep it open.
Keep in mind that Los Coyotes is private property. The Indians have
every right to close it if they want. Let's hope they decide to keep
it open a while longer but we should not be surprised when/if it
closes.

I've had a few people interested in writing letters to the Los
Coyotes Indians to thank them for the use of their Reservation for 4
wheeling and to request that they keep it open for that use. Below
is the address and name of their Chairperson.

I'd very much like to go, but could only make it on one day (Friday, Saturday, or Monday). I've seen some of the photos people have taken; it looks fun, but are there bypasses for stockers to get by some of the harder stuff?

Very few of the more difficult things do not have bypasses, but for stockers you want to choose the trails a bit more carefully, and be perpared to take a strap, even on some of the bypasses.

You'll kick yourself later if you don't try it. But remember to stick to suitable trails.
