Okay, trying to unplug my TCM to check to see if it is faulty and run it in "dumb" mode. But where the heck is it to unplug? I have a 97 4.0.

Okay, let's walk me through this :clap: I looked under the glovebox and saw nothing but plastic and wires. Is it in the glovebox?

It is mounted on the back of the lower dash plastic trim piece on the passenger side. You can also disable it by pulling the fuse for it out under the hood.

Allllllll the way down at the bottom of the dash. If you stick your head down there and look up, you'll see the TCM (TCU?) in there. Need photo?

I realized it is kinda buried up above the HVAC stuff, but I got to it when pulling my dash apart to get the wiring for my radio

So before I start unscrewing and cursing, what fuse can I take out that will do the same thing

on the 97 it is sits above the accelerator pedal. the earlier ones are on the passenger side.

i dont think you can drive with it unplugged. and you will store a code.

I thought you could unplug it to simulate driving home in "limp" mode, basically a manual tranny. How can I test if it is the culprit or not?

YOu can drive fine but you have to manully shift when driving. When you have the fuse out or the wire harness unplugged.

your 97 is not like the 87-95's there isnt an inline fuse like those.

it looks like your 5 days into this jeep and it is narrowed down to a trans problem, i would get a used tcm and see if it works. you got nothing to lose at this point.
