Vehicle Speed Sensor lock

This is going to sound really lame, but what's the trick for removing the electrical plug from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)? It has one of those sliding red locks that holds the plug in place, and I'd really rather not break it if possible. The Jeep's a 99, BTW. Any words of wisdom?

slide the red retainer up until it stops then push in the tab that holds the plug to the sensor.
