simple tire size Q

How does a 30x9.50 tire compare with a metric size? I'm trying to compare that to a 245 70R15 in width and diameter. I'm not familiar with the LT sizes.

I've been told here that the 30 will fit an 89 laredo if it's lifted an inch or two, how about the 245/70? That's one size wider and one net size larger than stock (225/75).
