A rubber bushing that is. Finally tracked down the noise from the rear suspension to the lower shock mounts. for some reason, my XJ doesnt like poly bushings, and aactually likes to eat them up.
Put in the rubber bushing from a stock shock today, and the noise is gone. no more loud clunk going over bumps or dips. Also replaced the RRO BPEs with the stock BPE.
I did this because the shocks were bottoming out with only a little flex. i have raised shock mounts, and with the BPEs, had to mcuh droop and not enough compression room. BTW, these are the standard OME shocks.
Thanks to those that helped me troubleshoot this.
