attaching surco rack to thule cross bars

I want to mount my Surco safari rack off my xj on my zj with Thule cross bars temporarily. Has anyone made a mount with, for example, u-bolts, or do I need to buy the adapter?
 
I haven't seen the cross braces for the Surco racks. But if they're flat stock you could drill a hole through them and the Thule load bars and bolt it down. I would say at least 4-6 bolts. Edges and middle.
