1993 cherokee sport, 4.0 L engine....
what transfer case is under it?

Probably an NP231 CommandTrac.

It may be an NP242 SelecTrac. The way to tell is to look at the tcase shifter: if it's got both 4Hi Parttime and 4Hi Fulltime, you've got a SelecTrac. If it's only got a single 4Hi position, it's the 231.
