Transfer case Q's

I am currently looking at a 96 Grand Cherokee to buy for a daily driver. In short it has a quadratrac all time 4 wheel drive that is going to give it lousy gas mileage. My question is can i swap that case for a 242 or 231.
Just a few details:v-8. auto, heavy duty tow package(6500 lbs)3.73 gears, no lift and stock tires.

You are not going to notice much of a gain in mileage. Yes you can swap in a different case but it may not be a bolt in. I put a 242 in a 94 Grand Chero when the 249 shot craps. I had to swap the input shafts so it would fit. If you go to the NAGCA site and do a search you will find a few guys who have done this.
