The more things change, the more they remain the same. 9 years in the Chicago area, 6 different names on paychecks, and 3 different chairs.

Looks like I'm adding to the list again. Pfizer R&D has announced plans to close all Chicago area operations, targeting 18 months from now.

The only thing I DO know at the moment is that 2 years from now, if I'm still in Chicago, my paycheck won't read Pfizer. Beyond that, my crystal ball gets clear as mud.

I haven't been notified yet as far as my particular position is concerned. I will be VERY irritated if I lose out on Moab this year.

Have you seen the movie "American Beauty"?

if so, take note on how Kevin Spaceys character, "Lester" handles corporate downsizing in his office......hey, you never know, it could work for you too......

seriously, you are greatly skilled and talented, there's no doubt you won't be in the market for long, just post a heads up so some of us know when we can put out our "feelers".....

I haven't had to pound pavement looking for work since I started in the info industry in 1986, every single job I've had since then has found me.

Right now, I'm kind of hunkering down, and keeping my options open. I'm not actively looking (yet) but if a good position shows up, I'd be a darned fool to not consider it.

Jeff:

Just so you know, the Pfizer (former Pharmacia) corporate parking lot next door keeps getting emptier and emptier over the past couple of weeks. Those guys didn't get an 18 month window.

Beez is right - with your talents, you should do OK, but keep your eyes open - starting now.

And, NO excuses re: Moab! If need be, even if you're living out of the back of your XJ by September, we'll snap you up on the way by! Which reminds me - if you haven't already - make sure you reserve the same trailer spot at SRCG as you had in 2001. Have to make sure that the entire corner is "compatible", right? :D

You guys watched American Beauty? I couldn't sit through 5mins of that movie.:puke:

Sorry to hear that Jeff, the only sugestion I could give you is to start stocking up on Viagra while you still can.

Its not surprising that someone, whose favorite movie is mutant ninja turtles, wouoldn't understand or appreciate awesome visual metaphor, as well as great acting from great actors and actresses such as kevin spacey, anntette bening, and chris cooper......and the score by tom newman......

you're not confusing this movie with american pie are you?

I figure you'd be able to identify (especially) with the scene where jason bigg's character glues his hand to his dork and the porn video.......

I love that movie, American Beauty. The blond, whats her name. Anntette bening. She is a beautiful goddess. Huba hubba

chris you know you liked the two male "partners" who lived next door.

and ted z, beez wasnt talking about kevin spacey hangin out with the reefer addict next door. im pretty sure beez is talkin about the part where kevin spacey is about to get fired and he blackmails his boss into giving him a years salary as severance pay then gets a job with no responsibility (he worked the drive up window at mcdonalds).

Nah...... some of have no use for that stuff..... and I haven't watched American Beauty either.

Should know more in a few weeks. Except for saying "we want to close the site in 18 months" no timetables have been set for anything.

American Beauty...I've gotta watch that again, it's been too long. On a side note, I found it rather funny...all the high school scenes in that movie are my old school, South Torrance High School...first time I know of that it was used in a feature movie, usually it's Torrance high that's used, South generally just gets B movies...

jeff, you'd really enjoy one of the office scenes with kevin spacey.....check it out....

btw, the blond is mena suvari.......

i'm sure she's a dog in real life.......

probably not though.

Just a minor update....... It looks like I'm relatively secure until around the end of the year.
