temperature gauge testing

Okay, I did a search and wasn't able to come up with what I was looking for and I know its been discussed on here before because I remember reading it. What is the procedure for testing the temperature gauge for accuracy? Also, is there a way to test the temperature sensor that the temperature gauge reads off of? TIA

Here's a simple way to test the gauge sending unit and the gauge for accuracy. Remove the sending unit from the cylinder head but leave it attached to the wiring harness. Boil a pan of water, take it to your Jeep, and dip the sending unit in the boiling water. The gauge should read 212*F or be just about at the halfway mark.
