Delayed carnage?

Probably a good thing I didn't go wheeling Sunday. New High-Angle Driveline long travel shaft has been ordered.

Today, after tightening various bolts, I drove the XJ for the first time since un-hooking it from the motorhome and jump starting it to get it in the garage. After I turned the stereo down I noticed a rattling noise in the front end. This is what I found

Knock on wood, I seem to have pretty good luck with not quite breaking stuff on the trail, as this sort of thing has happened to me before. I wonder where that u-joint cap went?

Damn John ... I just went through my XJ today and checked bolts, greased, and repaired the roof line over the rear window. After seeing pics of your front drive shaft and axle u-joints, I think I'll do a more thorough check of things.

One day last summer, I was coming home from work and heard heard a rattling noise each time I accelerated. I stopped and found both caps missing from the rear drive shaft u-joints at the pinion.
