Dana 30 pinion nut

Is the pinion nut on my '00 XJ (low pinion Dana 30) reverse thread (clockwise
off) or is my impact wrench too wimpy? Gave it a shot of PB Blaster too.

Your impact is too wimpy. Don't worry, my impact wouldn't touch it either. Needed a 3 foot breaker bar to get mine off. Needed the same bar to compress the crush sleeve to spec as well when re-tightening.

Ditto on the breaker bar over here as well for taking it off and on. The impact gun just didn't have the juice to handle it. Juice

What is the torque specs on that nut?

200 ft lbs.
But may take up to 300 to crush the crush sleeve. But the Nut needs to be at least 200ft lbs. Don't exceed 300 ft lbs or you will just be crushing the bearings. Don't forget the lock tite when you reinstall the nut.
