Need help with 2.5L

I have a 87 2.5L MJ that will not run right. At first it would not start well due to a bad fuel injector and now it runs, but it will pop up through the TB. As soon as you try to excerate it boggs down and pops through the TB. It hass new plugs, O2 sencor, and a few other new things. Cap and rotor seem OK. If its Timing, how do you set it? Any ideas what it could be?
Anything would help, I am a bit desperate.

Wow, I hate when that happens. First make sure the spark plug wires are on the right plug. The spark timing is taken off the crank position sensor so make sure the sensor is ok (I can't find my manual and can't remember the test). Did you disturb the distributor? I would do a compression check to make sure the valves are closing right. Oh and change the cap and rotor and plug wires just for kicks and giggles.

My 2.5 ltr MJ did the same exact thing. I think I solved mine by changing the Coolant Temp Sensor....

I am still lacking a bit of power, but I believe that is due to the fuel pump...but no more intake backfire or bog outs

There was also a huge thread on JU (booooo, ,hiiisss)about this...search the XJ forum to find it....alot of good suggestions in that thread too.

I think I will change the Cap, rotor, etc. I will also check the CTS. I did not disturb the Dristributor, and I did a comp check and do know that one or two are low, but not real bad. It should still run OK, even if the power is not what it was new.

Sure sounds like a swapped plug wire or a distributor that is not indexed correctly. The firing order is on the top of the intake manifold. A big vacuum leak can cause havoc with that engine. Don't ask me how I know, but I have been around the 2.5L a bit. Ask Hoss, he's running my last 2.5L before I went with the 4.7L stroker.
