O.k, I'm not sure if this should be in OEM or modified tech, because it involves a lifted XJ, but stock parts, so here goes... I have a '86 XJ with the 207 T-case and non-disco front axle. The front drive shaft has the ball-and-socket type joint on the T-case side (fwd car style), and it's noisy. In my back yard sits an '84, with a 228 T-case and a dico front axle. The shaft on that one is the double-cardan style. I haven't taken measurements yet, but would that shaft bolt up to the '86? Or are the output yokes on the two T-cases different? Any help would be great!
