BLM EXTENDS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ROUTE DESIGNATION COMMENT PERIOD

The Bureau of Land Management's Redding Field Office has extended until April 30 the deadline for public comments and suggestions on motor vehicle routes and trails across public land.

The BLM especially needs public comments on the Interlakes Special Recreation Area (including the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area) between Lake Shasta and French Gulch, and on BLM-managed areas west of French Gulch.

BLM Off Highway Vehicle Coordinator Sky Zaffarano said comments are also needed on vehicle routes on BLM-managed lands in the Sacramento River Bend area, Grass Valley Creek, Swasey Drive, Butte Creek and Clear Creek areas.

The agency also is accepting comments on all current off-highway-vehicle route designations.

"This road and trail designation for motorized vehicles is required by law, and allows the BLM to incorporate the selected routes into the Redding Resource Management Plan," Zaffarano said.

Comments should be sent to the Bureau of Land Management, 355 Hemsted Dr., Redding, CA 96002.

Additional information is available from Zaffarano or Bill Kuntz in the Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100.

BLM's Redding Field Office manages about 250,000 acres of public lands in Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Siskiyou and Trinity counties.
