Today I received the maps for the 6 alternatives for the southern California Forest Plan Updates. The preferred alternatives will affect 4wd/OHV use/access on the four forests. Take the time to review the Draft EIS and make specific comments pertaining to your issues.

The draft environmental impact statement and draft land management plans are in the publication process!! The most frequent question we hear right now is "when can I see the documents?"
Short-term timeline:
Friday, April 30--Mail hardcopies to those on the mailing list who submitted a written request during the ordering period last year.
Thursday, May 6--Online documents available for review and comment.
Monday, May 10--First hosted open house at the San Diego Natural History Museum (see below).
Tuesday, May 11-- A "virtual open house" will run through August 11, 2004 on this website.
Friday, May 14--Notice of Availability posted in the Federal Register. This marks the official beginning of the comment period.

The next question tends to be "when can I submit comments?" The official answer to that is Friday, May 14, 2004. The comment period is 90 days, ending August 11, 2004. Each of the southern California National Forests will host open houses in communities near the forests to acquaint people with the documents and provide information about the comment process, and this website will host a "virtual open-house" beginning Tuesday, May 11.
