What year of Cherokee did they start putting V8s in them?

The Cherokee was never sold with a V-8 engine.

It was sold with a General Motors 2.8L V-6 from 1984 through 1986.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Grand Cherokee?

70s & 80 FSJs like the J-10 & J-20 could be had with the 360 or even the 401 V8s. Never in the XJ.

a friend of mine's boyfriend said that he just got a Cherokee like mine and it had a V8 in it he said its a 93. I was told this over the phone. I said that I'd never heard of and XJ with a stock V8 in it and asked if it was a grand and she said no. So it just made me curiouse if there was something I didin't know

AFAK 93 was the first year of the ZJ, right

93-98 for the ZJ. Had to double-check that with the folks at www.nagca.com just to make sure I wasn't caffeine-deprived.

'93 was indeed the first year for the Grand Cherokee (ZJ), and in that year the ZJ was offered with both the 4.0L 6-cyl and the 5.2L (318) Chrysler V-8.
