T/C Shifter

I got a little problem I have a 2000 cherokee sport w/231,4.0,auto. and everytime i put it into 4low it pops out of 4low. and it will do this 3-4 times then it will finally stay in. What could be causing this to happen? :dunno: and this only happens in 4low, 4high is ok.

It could be just the linkage, which is adjustable. It's most likely to show up in 4-low. I don't have my shop manual at hand, but it's pretty easy to do. If someone else doesn't chime in soon with the instructions, post back later and I'll see if I can fish it up. You might first just check the position of the handle when it's in 4-high. It should be pretty nearly parallel to the floor. If it's tilted up, that's a good sign it needs adjusting.
