Drivetrain opinions

Hey, all. I'm looking for some opinions on what I should do for a driveline in my '87 MJ. I currently have a swapped-in 4.3L Chevy with a 700-R4. I've narrowed the choices down to the following:

1) Keep the 4.3 and swap in an AX-15 or NV3550 manual (I miss shifting for myself) and an NP231.

2) Swap in a '91 or later stroked 4.0L with an AX-15/NP231.

3) Say to hell with it and put in a small-block (Ford or Chevy).

This will be a mostly trail truck but must have the ability to do some long highway miles, if necessary. I'd like some opinions from you guys on the above options or present your own. TIA.

Sewerboss,
Interesting......I hadn't thought about the manual valvebody. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Beezil WTF are you talking about? If you have the 4.3 wouldn't the SBC bolt up to the tranny you have?
