Sometimes when I get in my jeep and go to start it, it takes a few trys to actually get it started. It doesn't happen very much, but I'm wondering what that would be so I can fix it before it gets worse!

Sounds like either a fuel or spark issue. What year is your XJ?

For a quick fuel test, the first time you start it, prime the pump by turn the ignition but not all the way, do this about 3 times, then try the ignition. If it starts, then either a bad fuel pump, or maybe a bad fuel line.

For spark, do you have any other performance issues. Like cutting out, stalling, not starting after driving it for about 5-10 min.

My XJ is a 87. I think it might be the fuel thing because the pump makes a hissing noise which probably isn't a good thing. I just checked my spark pluggs this evening and they look pretty new.
