4WD and towing question????

What are the options as far as the proper way to have your 4WD XJ towed when you don't have a flatbed? What is necessary to insure that the TC will not be damaged? The owners manual is very vague on the subject Thanks everyone.

My owners manual is very specific: transmission in Park (or any forward gear if a 5-speed), transfer case in Neutral.

Eagle's answer is for flat towing (all 4 wheels on the ground). If your XJ has a disconnect front axle, you need to shift the TC into neutral while the engine is running, to ensure that the axle is engaged.

If you're towing with 2 wheels lifted, either lift the front and disconnect the rear driveshaft, or lift the rear.
