Carrier and gears

Looking at getting 4:10 gears and a guy in the club has D30 4:10's for $20. I think he also has 4:10's for D44 although I have 8.25. No carriers though, I am still running 3:55 gears and would need to change the carriers, how much are they? Would it be good to get the D44 gears and exchange someone for the 8.25? Is the 96 XJ reverse cut gears? Thats what the D30 he has is. TIA Jeff CamoXJ
