what do the xj and mj letters mean? I just bought a 2001 Cherokee Classic and am really going to enjoy it. Thanks for any help.

model designations. the mj is not a cherokee really more of a commanche pick-up. I don't believe the have acronym properties. I could be wrong about the whole damn thing.

Those are the designations Jeep used for the Cherokee (XJ) and Comanchee (MJ) models. They have no real significance but are rather design IDs. Jeep has made several other models through the years including the CJ, DJ, SJ, TJ, VJ, and ZJ and are still making the KJ (Liberty), WJ (Grand), and YJ (Wrangler).
