Subject: Keep Our Beaches Open

John/David,

Hello again. I was wondering if you guys could help us out in this email campaign, so far we have been copied on over 100 emails going to all the decision makers in Galveston and Texas. If you could help by sending this letter to everyone you know and asking them to do the same..... Galveston is about to make their move and we do believe it will ultimately end up in court but, we are trying one last time to convince them to do what is right by the majority of all Texans and all visitors of the State, not just a few beachfront homeowners and developers. Thanks. Lisa

Hello,
Texas Open Beach Advocates need your help! The Galveston Beach Access plan
is now back in full swing and we need to stand up four our rights to access
the beachfront. If you do not stand up for your rights, they will be taken
away. You can make a difference! Over the past 20 years, Galveston has
restricted 17 of the 20 miles of beachfront on the West end of Galveston
Island to vehicular traffic. There are several miles along the 17 miles from
the Seawall to the Rusty Hook at San Luis Pass where we have not been given
equal or better access. Now, the City of Galveston wants to close the last
3.2 miles of beachfront to vehicular traffic at San Luis Pass. San Luis Pass
is one of the most prolific beachfront fishing areas along the Texas Gulf
Coast. Fishermen have enjoyed access to this beachfront for generations.
Now, our access is about to be dictated by future development.
TOBA wants to see some diversity along the Galveston beachfront. We believe
the Seawall should be maintained, there should be pocket parks, areas of off
beach parking, areas for on beach parking, and yes, areas where vehicles can
travel along the beachfront like at San Luis Pass.
TOBA has already turned in a vehicular permit system for the San Luis Pass
area that will help maintain the diversity and also provide revenues for
beach nourishment, beach maintenance, more trash receptacles, better
signage, more enforcement, and strategic bollard placement to help protect
the dunes and wildlife. The permit system would cost $10.00 per year and
would allow you to drive on the beaches at San Luis Pass or any other
beaches open to vehicular traffic.
Our local and state officials have not been enforcing our states Open
beaches Act for some time now. There are dozens of violations in the Open
Beaches Act along the Galveston beachfront, yet our General Land Office and
Attorney General will not enforce our state laws.
Now, the City of Galveston is getting ready to decide what our access should
be. The beach access plan is moving forward, and there is a small window of
opportunity for you to send in your comments to both our local and state
officials. We also feel that CCA should hear your concerns. CCA believes in,
and is fighting for the Freedom to Fish Act. This ACT states that the most
important element for recreational anglers is to the ability to have areas
to access to fish. So, we want CCA to help us fight for our rights to access
the beachfront as we always have at San Luis Pass.
Here is what TOBA has done for you! We have created an email link for you to
send your comments to. Your email will go the Attorney General, The Land
Commissioner, all of the city of Galveston City council and planning
commission members, Pat Murray and Will Ohmstede with CCA.
We would like for you to focus on supporting the vehicular permit system
that TOBA has presented to the city of Galveston for San Luis Pass. We hope
that you will keep all comments professional. I will also be copied on all
emails.

Hello,
I support the vehicular permit system that Texas Open Beach Advocates have
proposed for the beachfront at San Luis Pass. This permit system allows for
diversity to be maintained along the Galveston beachfront. The permit system
will provide the much needed revenues for beach nourishment, beach
maintenance, more trash receptacles, better signage, more enforcement, and
strategic bollard placement to help protect the dunes and wildlife. Please
do not close the last stretch of beachfront to vehicular traffic at San Luis
Pass. Leave a little diversity so that all user groups can enjoy the
beachfront.

Thank you,
