By-laws discussion

During chat we have talked about accepting the NAXJA bylaws as chapter bylaws. Couple general points to make (to cover questions that kept popping up) NAXJA bylaws do not require fees for events (a fee for an event may be decided upon on an event by event basis as certain runs/events might have costs such as permits associated with them). The bylaws do not require us to charge additional fees as a chapter (some feared additional $$ costs, but we hope to raise money through sponsors and raffles). They do require us to enforse the safety equipment rules for OFFICIAL runs only (it'd be very good and prudent to enforce them on all runs but only OFFICIAL runs have that requirement).

Please comment on the topic. Btw, here are the
bylaws

At this point I would suggest that we go with the national bylaws. As we get further along and better established we could revisit the issue of our own chapter bylaws. There is no need to over-burden ourselves with too many rules. This is supposed to fun! :D

Curtis has it right. I like that idea also.

So far, all of the existing chapters use the national by-laws, and have remained a part of the national organization with the national insurance coverage. It's possible for a chapter to actually be a seperate club, with it's own structure and by-laws, but there is really no need for that. The by-laws are being reviewed and updated, and part of that is completing and correcting the part of the by-laws that relate to chapters.

Also, at this time the president of the SoCal chapter will also automatically become a national board member for NAXJA.
